Recordings of Frank's Music fall into Two Main Categories: -

Firstly, pieces utilising All of Frank's equipment: - DEEP PEACE, STAR PEACE & PLANETARY PEACE #1.  These feature a huge range of different soundscapes; and, Secondly, music which focuses upon or features a 'family' of instruments (i.e. Gongs only, Bowls only, etc) or, which concentrates upon a specific sound-energy / chakra-meditation e.g. INFINITE PEACE, ETERNAL PEACE or THE HEALING BOWLS OF TIBET. These arise from Frank's long-term desire (started in 1965) to create very deep musical - sound - compositions using spiritual knowledge / observations regarding the effects of these sacred sounds. These albums contrast with and compliment the variety and breadth of sound textures found in the former category. Frank's music features graphic skeletal scores, entirely spontaneous improvisation and instant composition.

Frank Perry

Frank began playing his percussion instruments in the spring of 1964. In 1965, having discovered that he was a channel for members of The Great White Brotherhood, Frank prayed that he may be guided in his music as a Path of Service. Since 1974 his music-making has almost entirely centred upon his sacred meditation music. He is a multi-faceted artist who shares his mystical experiences and perceptions with others through the creative expression of his spirit via a wide variety of media. Elsewhere on this site are his graphic scores, paintings, and writings. His unique skill with Tibetan ritual instruments combined with his exceptionally deep understanding of sound currents produces a safe experience / sound-environment that is designed to potently reawaken the ancient wisdom regarding the power of sound and create a deep alignment with your deepest innermost Divine Self. Using exceptionally pure instruments - many of them being of great antiquity and coming from spiritual traditions of the Far East/Central Asia - his music also has a cleansing quality most suitable for working on the higher chakras; the 'golden triangle.' 

He is a composer, improvising percussionist, overtone singer, spiritual healer; sound healer; a spiritual / karmic astrologer; clairvoyant, clairaudient, a channel, artist and psychic artist, an inventor of musical instruments, a writer, a very experienced workshop leader; and often referred to as a shaman (by shamans) as well as a 'sound master.' He began consciously following his spiritual path in 1965.

DEEP PEACE (1980).   73’ 48”

This piece is 'symphonic' in scope being good for meditation, artistic inspiration, healing activities and relaxation. It moves seamlessly through a large variety of sound-textures; each one blending harmoniously into the next. It combines a fixed ‘Ritual’ backing-track with ‘numerological’ repetitive rhythmic cycles alongside spontaneous improvisation. Track 2 (the Cosmic Wine) is highlighted by a large, truly celestial, central section featuring a wide variety of bowed bells and bowed 'sound-discs.'  The piece-as-a-whole works mainly upon the 3 higher chakras. Whilst Deep Peace is available as a double CD upon the American Celestial Harmonies label, only the BEL CD 001 includes the two extra tracks; MOUNTAIN SUNRISE (‘77) a musical meditation upon the sunrise of the spirit, & ABODE OF ANGELS (‘98) featuring music representative of the angels of the four elements intermixed; over 33 extra minutes of new ‘Ritual’ music – music that includes repetitive symbolic rhythmical cycles.

Based upon the Cycle of the Twelve Signs of the Zodiac STAR PEACE plays continuously for its 50 minutes, seamlessly unfolding through 12 very distinctly different meditative sound-scapes utilising all of Frank's 500 + instruments also including Boo Flute and his Overtone Singing. Suitable for those who are happy with a more constantly varied or changing range of beautiful sound-colours whilst they listen - yet that inner core of deep peace is never lost. This BEL CD also includes a recent piece TEMPLE OF THE ANCIENT MAGICAL PRESENCE #2 (1998) an astonishing, very powerful piece again comprised of varied textures – a deep, inner journey of transformation lasting around 22 minutes.

This release contains a broad range of sound-worlds. This album is sub-titled Belovodye - Land of White Waters - being the Russian legend of Shambhala. The six tracks follow the planetary river of Light to the source. Sacred percussion instruments from huge gongs through countless bells and bowls to the tiny Tibetan invocation cymbals join with Mongolian-style overtone singing, dijeridu, overtone bamboo flute and cello harmonics to create a deep journey through a garden of beautiful sounds. The planetary order taken is Venus, Mars, Moon, Saturn, Mercury and Jupiter.

LEGEND OF SHAMBHALA (2002 & 2003)  74:00

            Another CD featuring the musical explorations of these wonderful instruments - also including Sacred Conch Shell Trumpets, Gongs and overtone singing too. This first track features a large range of sound textures moving from one section into another. It is a studio recording of the music for a metaphysical audio-visual featuring the paintings of Russian artist Nicholas Roerich (1874 - 1948) linked to the theme of Shambhala. The music minus the paintings must needs be more dramatic. For this recording the proportions of its sections were based upon the Fibonacci Series (Geometry of Nature) except here adapted as a Palendrome, to commemorate 2002. 

            The second piece TEMPLE OF LIGHT has echoes of side two of DEEP PEACE (one of frank's earliest LP's - recorded in 1980) and features a background drone upon 7 Tibetan Hand bells (Drilbu) playing a form of 'Music of the Spheres' above a beautiful ancient Tibetan Singing Bowl attuned to the Heart Chakra and the Lord Maitreya  which plays throughout and above this drone are played three main sections upon Singing Bowls. The two outer sections are upon a group of deep bowls whilst the central section is played upon a collection of 39 high Yin bowls. At the point of the Golden Section (Geometry of Nature) mystical music, representing Communion with the Cosmic Heart, enters.

INFINITE PEACE & PEACE ETERNAL were conceived of as a pair uniting East and West. Designed to help promote World Peace; Peace through Culture. Both are of the second category concerned with deeper sound-meditation. Each accompanying booklet contains full notes regarding both the meditations, from which each piece derives its inspiration, plus suggested ways of working with these musical pieces to help promote World Peace.

 

            The main pieces on STAR PEACE, INFINITE PEACE, ETERNAL PEACE & CRYSTAL PEACE were all recorded entirely digitally in The White Temple of the White Eagle Lodge in January of 1986 using UHJ-Ambisonic Surround-Sound techniques. In the main, one microphone was used and therefore no ‘mixing’ could subsequently be done. What you hear is quite simply precisely what I played in the unique acoustic of the circular and dome-shaped White Temple, alongside the truly wonderful spiritual vibrations. INFINITE PEACE (1986).  72’ 12”

Part 1: PEACE OF THE BLESSED BUDDHA, is a long meditation in four parts for huge, deep Gongs; antique Tibetan Singing Bowls; Japanese Zen Buddhist Temple Bells; Burmese Meditation Gongs; Petalumines, Soundplates, Pyrahermeezees etc. Performed whilst in Tibetan meditation, it is supremely peaceful, slow, & full of deep inner silence and stillness. Part 2: GOLDEN CITY OF PEACE, opening with very deep gongs, settling upon a very sacred Tibetan Heart-Chakra Singing Bowl (12th c), featuring Frank's rich bass-voice, Mongolian - style overtone chanting; a Cosmic Heart 'Praise-song' powerfully raising us into Communion with the Divine. The CD contains the extra piece CALL OF THE MOUNTAIN OF THE GOLDEN BOWLS (‘98) which is around 12 minutes long exclusively featuring the enchanting sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls. PEACE ETERNAL (1986).  73’ 24”

Part 1: TEMPLE OF ISIS / SANCTUARY OF PEACE, is a meditation upon an ancient Tibetan Singing Bowl working upon the Throat Chakra, over which Frank plays sparsely upon various ancient temple bells and above it all Chinese bamboo flutes. Through a shimmer of wind chimes we enter a space of bells over which breathes an improvised song on the Chinese flutes. Peaceful yet very uplifting and inspiring. Part 2: LORD, MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF THY PEACE, features the 'family' of Chinese Resting Bells plus antique Chinese & Japanese Temple Bell Trees. These have a very warm, uniquely mellow sound seemingly floating or hanging in the air, caressing the magical silence of the White Temple. Very beautiful, played with lots of space and silences, gently permeating and strengthening our aura as we abide meditating in the Eternal Silence. The CD includes MONTSEGUR (’98 – the ‘Treasure of the Cathars’) a major piece over 31 minutes long with deep, powerful gongs contrasting with sections of bells yet still compatible with the peacefulness of the former tracks then settling into the huge ‘Kanchenjunga Bowl’ – sounding the Cosmic Heart moving towards a truly celestial ending – expressive of the Cathar ‘Treasure’ – the Gospel of the Divine Love of the Cosmic Christ.

Part 1: CRYSTAL STAR Features the large collection of beautiful mellow-sounding Chinese Resting Bells & Chinese - Japanese Bell Trees, gradually including more ethereal bowed sounds, whose crystal-clear sounds are as beams of Light from our Higher Self, gently opening us to the inner worlds. Part 2: CRYSTAL PEACE taking the theme of Crystals, this is a totally spontaneous improvisation weaving its way through Frank's entire collection of exotic healing sounds. The CD has an extra track CHINTAMANI  (’91) over 26 minutes long for a set of ‘Noah Bells’ from India and featuring Frank’s ‘hanging sounds’ – where Silence is truly golden! Here we have 100 minutes of Frank's music and wisdom. Side A begins with a 7-minute piece: - TREASURE OF THE MOUNTAIN with huge gongs and the wonderfully magical sounds of the Singing Bowls. The bowls are then used to illustrate an in-depth talk on their many aspects, answering all of those frequently asked questions. Side B: - THE WAY OF THE BOWLS begins with a very short spoken meditation on the Heart Chakra which leads us out into around 45 minutes of unique Tibetan Singing Bowl Music utilising many playing techniques and sound-textures found within Frank's rare collection of over 150 of these ancient, sacred instruments and closing with the beautiful overtone choir. Listening to these powerfully charged bowl sounds has a purifying, ennobling, and very strengthening effect upon the whole aura. Frank began using Tibetan ritual instruments in his music in 1973. Apart from being a definitive cassette version of Frank’s workshops, it 's also the long-awaited tape of Frank's Tibetan Singing Bowl Music!

This CD includes the two pieces of Tibetan singing bowl music from the above cassette - TREASURE OF THE MOUNTAIN (8 mins) with some huge gongs and the wonderfully magical sounds of the Singing Bowls, & THE WAY OF THE BOWLS (44 mins) which begins with the beautiful-sounding Heart Chakra bowl which leads us out into around 45 minutes of unique Tibetan Singing Bowl music utilising many playing techniques and sound-textures found within Frank's rare collection of over 150 of these ancient, sacred instruments and closing with the beautiful overtone choir. In addition this CD includes the new piece WITHIN THE PETALS OF THE ROSE a further 21 minutes of Tibetan Bowl music only this time focusing upon the Healing side of their uniquely potent sounds. DIVINE PEACE (1998)   72’ 49”

This CD consists of 3 tracks: - THE TEMPLE WITHIN which features Frank’s overtone singing with the 800-year-old Heart Chakra Tibetan singing bowl; MOUNTAIN OF THE SHINING ONES, a long track derived from a totally spontaneous improvisation upon the complete collection of all his instruments and a fine example of Frank’s ‘vertical’ improvisations. Sections largely alternate between Petalumines and Gongs. The exceptionally rare ‘Talking Bowl’ and ‘Whistling Bowl’ also appear. Both pieces come from ‘The White Temple’ 1986 recording sessions, benefiting both from the acoustics and the sublime spiritual energies of the Temple of the Brotherhood. Finally, we include a brand new piece, MESSAGE FROM SHAMBHALA. This last track is intended to represent Frank’s ‘live’ festival performances whilst it also has close affinity with the opening track except that here his powerful overtone chanting – including Tibetan Tantric ‘Undertone’ chanting – is framed by very deep Tibetan bowls overlaid with the exceptionally exotic and haunting sounds of special ‘Water’ bowls – deeply potent sonic vibrations!

            The CD Divine Peace makes available material from The White Temple recording sessions of 1986 which was too long to be issued on cassette. A ten minute piece for Tibetan bowl and overtone singing, ‘The Temple Within’ acts as an overture to ‘Mountain of the Shining Ones’, a totally spontaneous forty minute improvisation that seems to live on the precipice of the moment. The album is completed with a piece from 1996, ‘Message from Shambhala’ representative of Frank’s live festival performances, using deep Tibetan bowls, the wordless message of overtone chanting and the exotic sound of water bowls.

            Frank Perry is not setting out to create something comfortable and relaxing in his music. It is beautiful certainly but behind that beauty is a power like that of Rilke’s angel ‘that disdains to destroy us’ and behind that power is a peace, what Frank calls ‘the deep inner peace of the spirit’. And that peace is the source of healing.

RAINBOW HEALING PEACE (1999)   78’ 47”

This CD largely features a harmonic choir – a group of improvising overtone singers recorded in 1996. There are a total of 8 tracks with the choir and these are interspersed with sympathetic pieces either for Frank’s solo ‘hoomi’ (overtone singing) or for his instrumentals featuring Tibetan Bowls, Tibetan Bells, and Gongs – instruments themselves rich in overtones. This CD has a total of 13 tracks and lasts almost 79 minutes. Their order and timing create an uninterrupted flow, a meditative space. The theme for the whole album is that wonderful natural phenomenon the ‘Aurora Borealis.’ The final piece ‘Song of the Hathors’ also includes Frank’s Tibetan Tantric undertone chanting. The overtone choir worked under Frank’s direction for almost 4 years and naturally developed a very good rapport. All three members are composers in their own right and so this music is a form of instant (ego-less) composition. The human voice as an ‘Aeolian harp’ comes closest to describing this beautiful sound, which also powerfully draws listeners into the interior journey. The music all springs forth from out of profound meditative silence and, whilst at times powerful, carries an overall gentle healing and uplifting quality.

“It has the curious ability to dilate and suspend time. In these sound worlds, time does not pass in linear progression but is only felt as a pulsation of harmonics, an expanding texture from a sound core.

One seems to be gazing into a pool of silence in which sound ripples the surface with the most exquisite colours and shades and where each shift is perceived, as it were, in prismatic close up. The normal perception of intervals is suspended as the harmonics create a kind of hall of mirrors in which one perceives the same note in different dimensions and within different special parameters. This arrests ordinary consciousness with its predictable linear patterns and draws it into the underlying silence.

“Stargate Sirius” the penultimate piece begins with a highly dramatic instrumental introduction: gongs mixed with water bowls and their flame-like harmonics reach two overwhelming crescendos before over a deeper bowl ostinato the hoomi starts. The voice is luminous with extremely high and compressed harmonics while the soft deep bowl pulsates below.

However, there is a 13^th, final track, the most powerful of them all, and it is the culmination of this choir’s work together: “Song of the Hathors” starts in unison, then fans out, still on the same note, over four octaves. Suddenly the sound intensifies until it erupts into the most exciting section of Tibetan tantric undertone “bellows”. These move into sustained pulsations which underlie and structure the whole piece.

The second male voice then soars into the most amazing, almost violently compressed, harmonics. They are extremely high and scintillating and gain in intensity and match the wildness and power of the subharmonic “bellows”. The high female voice clusters around the ground notes of the male high harmonics until it, too, begins to soar.

This wonderful piece concludes what is a remarkable disc with electrifying vitality.”

TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS Volume 2

PATH TO SHAMBHALA (1999)    73’ 02”

This is one of Frank’s releases featuring explorations into the more exciting musical possibilities of the Singing Bowls of Tibet. The first track TEN BULLS takes its inspiration from this ancient Zen Buddhist story. Filmmaker Kim Bour commissioned Frank for this. Nevertheless, the film hasn’t been made yet, as Kim wanted to create it from out of Frank’s music. This piece flows continuously through 10 short parts. The second, longer piece – OLMO LUNG RING ‘Silver Palace of the Garuda Valley’ – is in 7 sections and is patterned upon this ancient Bonpo (pre-Buddhist) centre and is something of a ‘shamanic journey’ to this ancient abode of adepts. In his own unique way, Frank explores extremely rich and subtle textures in this piece – many totally new and never-before-heard textures from Frank’s enormous range of Tibetan Singing Bowls.             Also known as Volume 2 of Frank's Planets Suite (PLANETARY PEACE)- subtitled 'Ancient Tibetan Initiation Bowls'. It is a CD featuring the wonderfully magical sounds of Tibetan Bells, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Tibetan invocation cymbals (Ting-shag). Here we find the tracks for the remaining planets Vulcan, Sun, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The longest track (Sun) also features Frank's shamanic overtone singing. Originally conceived and largely recorded in 1993, it is now released for the very first time ever!

            With two Tibetan Bowl CDs already released, Frank was in two minds about releasing this - actually his first CD dedicated entirely to the sounds of the Tibetan Bowls (his first release featuring these sounds alone was track two of his second solo Album on the USA Celestial Harmonies label titled: NEW ATLANTIS - recorded in 1983) - at all. But listening to it again recently, he felt that these sessions indeed possessed a very unique quality and did deserve to be released as another facet of his work with these deeply potent instruments.

Belovodye 2 is an unparalleled triumph, a true masterpiece from all perspectives;  as experimental music, as performance artistry of the highest calibre, and as the sustained utterance of a truly exalted spiritual ‘note’. I would never use the word masterpiece lightly, but this is one indeed. Within the 79 minutes there are five tracks evoking Vulcan, the Sun -a glorious 34-minute sunbath for the ears - Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, subtitled Singing the Praises of the Blessed One Within All. As the equivalent of 150th Psalm in pure sound it had that sense of uplifted wonder and heart-release that characterises true worship in the spirit. Particular praise must be given to Oliver Nares’s wonderful and sensitive recording of the instruments.

            A CD entirely dedicated to working with the Chakras - or 'Body of Light' - featuring ancient Tibetan Singing Bowls especially made to activate the several chakras and collected by Frank over several decades. This is a serious workout and is highly potent and needs to be used with care. Each track is a composed piece of music taken from the perspective of the total evolutionary journey of our consciousness through the chakra system. Each track prominently features those bowls especially tuned to the chakras. Frank doesn't use any intellectual system for determining which bowls work with chakras, but rather his intuition, past-life memories, insights from his spirit guides, and his spiritual observations (and as observed upon countless hundreds of patients who've come to him for sound healing) concerning the direct effect of certain very rare ancient bowls upon specific chakras. "Frank Perry has long been recognised as a master of his extraordinary sacred percussion – the Tibetan singing bowls above all, gongs, Maya balls, rainsticks, Tibetan bells and other assorted instruments. Add to this his exquisite overtone singing and you have a magical, otherworldly soundscape like no other in which you could bathe indefinitely.

It is both a musically rich tapestry which you can perceive as an archetypal structure Perry intuits at a psychic level. At the same time the sounds are a therapeutic vibrational medicine that clearly cleanses mind, body and soul. The vibrations can do their work whether or not you decide to actually listen to them as you would ordinary music. For it has to be accepted that musical sounds operate on our physical and energy bodies through sympathetic or forced resonance if even we are deaf.

Since 1968 Perry’s aim has been to dedicate himself to finding and using sounds that have definite healing properties – primarily the singing bowls. He has amassed a very large collection of them through listening to more than 4000 bowls over a 20-year period.

As Perry states: "In certain schools of Tibetan Yoga particular religious objects are charged with psycho-spiritual powers and the most sacred singing bowls are likewise charged. Some of these are intended to assist us along our spiritual path of unfoldment such as special chakra bowls."

Unlike Volume 3 with its complexity and richness of sounds, including the overtoning, Chakra Healing has a potent simplicity and subtlety using primarily the singing bowls – carefully selecting them to activate the particular chakra. The complete experience is one of purification wherein the sounds seem to swirl into the energy centres and awaken them to resonate at their true frequencies. At the same time the primary energy of kundalini is stimulated in a rising pulsation.

 The essence of this music that Perry draws down to Earth is Akasha itself. That is, space opens up, time slows down and silences are heard. These sounds with their enormous range from the deepest rumblings of the gongs to the high tinnabulations of the Tibetan bells just hang there in space as a fluid geometry creating slow beat patterns. Therefore brain states are altered and you enter higher dimensions of existence where you can come into contact with your still, all-knowing Self and experience deep peace. This is the inner journey par excellence. With these recordings Perry has reached a pinnacle of spirit and expression. The expression ‘sacred sound’ is often very loosely used to describe all sorts of toning, chanting and music.         This CD features the poetry of Owen Davis. Three poems read by Owen alone and the other eight poems accompanied by Cathy Stevens on viola and violin, Chas Dickie on cello and keyboards and Frank on a selection of his instruments. Owen's poems have a lot of heart in them and Owen says of himself: "My influences? Thomas Traherne, John Bull and Orlando Gibbons, the horse chestnut tree, the little wren, Robert Nathan, the 1937 Lincoln Zephyr, Kenneth Patchen, Jamaican ska music of the mid-'60s, the seagull, Eric Dolphy (of course), Tommy Dorsey, the water-lily pond, Paul Matthews, and Annie herself." The music ranges from set tunes to spontaneously improvised pieces. These poems were recorded in 1990 and Frank began working with Owen and Pool of Sound (Cathy & Chas) in May of 1987 and this session was their final recording together. It is now made available for the first time.

TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS Volume 5

LEGEND OF SHAMBHALA (2002 & 2003)  74:00

            Another CD featuring the musical explorations of these wonderful instruments - also including Sacred Conch Shell Trumpets, Gongs and overtone singing too. This first track features a large range of sound textures moving from one section into another. It is a studio recording of the music for a metaphysical audio-visual featuring the paintings of Russian artist Nicholas Roerich (1874 - 1948) linked to the theme of Shambhala. The music minus the paintings must needs be more dramatic. For this recording the proportions of its sections were based upon the Fibonacci Series (Geometry of Nature) except here adapted as a Palendrome, to commemorate 2002. 

            The second piece TEMPLE OF LIGHT has echoes of side two of DEEP PEACE (one of frank's earliest LP's - recorded in 1980) and features a background drone upon 7 Tibetan Hand bells (Drilbu) playing a form of 'Music of the Spheres' above a beautiful ancient Tibetan Singing Bowl attuned to the Heart Chakra and the Lord Maitreya  which plays throughout and above this drone are played three main sections upon Singing Bowls. The two outer sections are upon a group of deep bowls whilst the central section is played upon a collection of 39 high Yin bowls. At the point of the Golden Section (Geometry of Nature) mystical music, representing Communion with the Cosmic Heart, enters.

TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS Volume 6:

ALL-CONQUERING LIGHT    (2005)  78:56

This CD features the extra tracks recorded at Amphonics Studio for the purpose of completing Volume 4 of the subsequent series titled HIMALAYAN STUDIES. This CD largely fulfils the main objective of the 5 CD set HIMALAYAN STUDIES, which was to record shorter pieces than I am used to creating and also to record them in one take with no over-dubs or multi-tracking, as it is often referred to. Usually my pieces are long - even if composed of shorter pieces within that total whole - and they are conceived of as an entire whole, sometimes even the titles are as lines of a poem so integrated are the several parts into the larger whole. Recording these shorter pieces brought about a change inasmuch as each would exist entirely upon their own without reference to anything else.
