Initially released on David Toop's !Quartz record label 007 (UK) in 1980, and subsequently on the Celestial Harmonies record label 007 (USA), both LP versions contained Frank's original words to accompany the release (click on the link to read these - or under Articles as 'Statement of Intent'). Deep Peace has now been reissued as a double CD alongside New Atlantis (the second release of my solo music on the Celestial Harmonies label from 1983) and the booklet includes all of my words for these two LPs. This is the latest release of this classic album on the Mountain Bell Music Label and includes two additional complimentary tracks.
The result of 14 years of research into the occult effect of sound and music, this piece is 'symphonic' in scope being good for meditation, artistic inspiration, healing activities and relaxation. It moves seamlessly through a large variety of sound-textures, each one blending harmoniously into the next. It combines a fixed ‘Ritual’ backing-track alongside spontaneous improvisation with some ‘numerological’ repetitive rhythmic cycles. Inspired by Wagner’s Eucharist theme from his music-drama Parsifal, it takes as its basic shape two waves with their peaks being represented by complexity of sounds - rather than dynamic peaks as found in Wagner's Parsifal. These two waves also represent the Holy Communion with God the Supreme Universal Spirit experienced as Father-Mother and Child. Track 1 is more attuned to the Masculine energies of individuation whilst Track 2 contains the more Feminine energy of Communion whilst the piece-as-a-whole is the Child – born of the Two-in-One. The entire piece lasts around 40 minutes linking with the Great Mother through the usual period of gestation. The timing between the two tracks (end of part 1 and beginning of part 2) reflects the original concept of a single piece of music whilst they have also been retained as two separate tracks. Listening to this CD you experience the two tracks in their first conception of one total whole.
(LPs could not feature a 40 minute track on one side alone - similarly, recording tapes in the studio could only run for 15 minutes - and so the whole piece was recorded in three parts.)
DEEP PEACE OF THE FLOWING AIR TO YOU
(The Cosmic Bread or Body of Christ) (20.07) Begins with a drone upon an ancient Chinese Resting Bell
attuned to the sign of Leo and working upon the heart chakra. This piece ends
also upon one sound – that of a Tibetan Drilbu or hand bell attuned to
Aquarius, the complementary sign of Leo. The climax of this track is found in a
49-beat cycle played upon an antique Chinese resting bell and a 400-year-old Japanese
Densho temple bell.
DEEP PEACE OF THE SON OF PEACE TO YOU
(The Cosmic Wine or Blood of Christ) (19:48) Begins with a 12th century Tibetan meditation cymbal attuned to the sign Cancer and is followed by a drone upon another ancient Chinese Resting Bell only this time also attuned to this sign of Cancer. Cancer is the sign of the Great Mother. Deep gongs and 16th century Japanese Zen Buddhist temple bells – Densho, follow this opening. A large, truly celestial, long central section featuring a wide variety of bowed bells and bowed ‘sound-discs’ (Planicerv 1 & 2 & Nectarine) highlights this whole track. Being attuned to the planet Neptune, which is the planet of dissolution, this long central section is freer, fluid, and more formless - in keeping with the cosmic wine of ecstatic love-union with the Celestial Beloved.
The piece-as-a-whole works mainly upon
the 3 higher chakras.

Whilst DEEP PEACE imports
as a double CD with NEW ATLANTIS upon the US Celestial Harmonies label only this BEL CD 001 includes the two extra tracks: -
MOUNTAIN SUNRISE (‘77) (17:13) beginning with a crescendo on a symphonic gong this piece then settles down into rhythmic cycles of 15 beats gradually increasing organically into longer rhythmic cycles and then decreasing back to the 15 beat cycle being played upon a set of Burmese chime bowls punctuated by the tuned symphonic gongs (D''' & F#''') and could be said to bear a superficial resemblance to Javanese Gamelan music. The main body of this work features these rhythmic cycles played upon bells and tuned gongs. Such rhythmic cycles are derived from astro-numerology and featured strongly in Frank's music at this time and he called such passages Ritual Music. Towards the close the music slows down taking us into that place of inner stillness.
This is a musical meditation upon the sunrise of the spirit. This was first issued on Frank's first solo meditation music tape of 1977 and is included here as a result of many requests for it to be made available again despite his concerns over the relatively poor quality of that original recording. This latest version has been re-mastered.
ABODE OF ANGELS (‘98)
(16:40) featuring musical sounds
representative of the angels of the four elements yet all co-existing together
creating an admixture of sound textures. This piece again features repetitive
rhythmical cycles of 9 beats and 11 beats etc. These are played upon Chinese
resting bells of various sizes and the Japanese Densho bells.
The piece takes its inspiration from an improvisation of the same name originally recorded at Frank's previous home in London in 1983. The previous version served both as a skeletal structure and inspiration for this improvisation. This new version was reduced in length to fit onto this CD whilst retaining the original basic structure. At that time 74 minutes was the industry standard. Initially, we re-released all six of our cassettes on CD including bonus tracks on each title and, because of this, the original version of this track was somewhat rushed in order to meet our production deadline. In November of 2000 and in May of 2,001 this piece was slightly revised and lengthened.
Over 33 extra minutes of ‘Ritual’ music – music with repetitive rhythmical cycles derived from their astro-numerological symbolic significance - released together for the first time.

Frank spent his honeymoon on the Island of Iona where he came across the original poem from which the title is taken. Originally titled THE HEALING PEACE it was the eolas of healing that Alan Dall, the blind poet, put upon the amadan (fool), touching the brow and the heart as he said here and here.

Originally recorded in 1980 and 1983, these meditative masterpieces have long
been recognised as remarkable and meaningful works.
Frank Perry employs a fascinating array of acoustic instruments, including 400 year old Zen Buddhist Densho bells and a Ming Dynasty Chinese temple bell. He adds various Kyeezees (Burmese meditation gongs), Burmese chime bowls, other glass bowls, Tibetan invocation cymbals and meditation cymbals, plus a variety of bells from Tibet, India, Japan and China. He uses no electronics whatsoever in his recordings; the long reverberations are the natural effect of the percussion instruments he uses.

For Tibetan Singing Bowls, Tibetan Invocation Cymbals (Ting-shag) and Tibetan Bells (Drilbu).
“Bells and gongs are representative of some of the most spiritual music,” says Perry. He is a master of his art form, understanding how each gong produces its fundamental tone, harmonics and sub-tones. He carefully blends to create the specific meditative mood he desires. “Admittedly, percussion is not a field of instrumentation or sound-source most usually associated with meditational music, but I have spent half of my life refining the potential usages and overcoming the initial restrictions imposed by this musical medium of percussion.”

Few artists are as spiritually sincere and philosophically dedicated as Frank Perry. “For the maintenance of well-being, each one of us is in need of a constant attunement or alignment with that deep peace at the centre of all life. This music is designed to provide a means, a bridge, towards this condition.”
Perry has been perfecting his musical skills as he has been perfecting his spiritual skills for the past several decades. In fact, the two aspects are fused in his life. He is a student of numerology and cosmology, and an ardent reader of varied theological and philosophical works. The knowledge he gains from these studies, he incorporates into his pieces to share with others. “This music centres one’s energy through concentration within sound, thus forming a bridge between past and future, or between the visible and invisible realms of Life.”
