Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace
Montsegur
Track 1: SANCTUARY
OF PEACE/TEMPLE OF ISIS (17:41), is a meditation upon an ancient
golden Tibetan Singing Bowl designed to work upon the Throat Chakra, over which
Frank plays various temple bells and Chinese bamboo flutes. The Throat Chakra
is concerned with purification, communication, and with the secrets of sound
vibration. Seated in contemplative meditation around a beautiful lotus pool in
ancient Egypt, through a shimmer of wind chimes we enter a space of bells
(tranquil waters of the lotus pool) over which breathes an improvised song on
the Chinese flutes soaring up into the dome of the Temple of Light. Peaceful,
yet very uplifting and inspiring.
Track 2: LORD, MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF THY PEACE (24:51), features the 'family' of Chinese Resting Bells plus antique Chinese & Japanese Temple Bell Trees. These have a very warm, soft, and uniquely mellow sound with a long sustain seemingly floating or hanging in the air, caressing the magical silence of the White Temple. Very beautiful and played with lots of space and silences, gently permeating and strengthening our aura as we abide meditating in the Eternal Silence. The melody of the bells is taken from this prayer of St Francis. The improvisation explores the rhythm and the chords derived from this slow melody. Descriptions of the meditations that inspired these two pieces are included within both the CD & cassette booklet. Once again these pieces were recorded in the sacred space of The White Temple acoustic using the one ‘sound-field’ microphone. However, Track 1 did use ‘over-dubbing’ for the flutes and the additional bells over the Throat Chakra bowl.

The CD includes MONTSEGUR (30:52)
(1998 – the ‘Treasure of the Cathars’)
originally recorded in 1980 a second version was recorded during
the same White Temple sessions in 1986. However, that
version proved too long to release on cassette whilst the quality of that
recording hasn’t stood the passage of time well enough to be included upon this
CD. Dedicated to my dear percussion brother in L.A. - Alex Cline, this recent
recording is based upon the earlier version being a major piece with deep,
powerful gongs including Sun gong, five Tuned gongs, Platonic year gong, Venus
gong, 34” symphony gong, and 38” Earth gong, contrasting with sections of
various bells (Chinese Qing, Japanese Densho and Rin, Kin, or Dobachi Bells, Indian
Bells, and Tibetan Bells), Kyeezees (Burmese
temple meditation gongs), Trianguhermeezees, Pyrahermeezees, and Petalumines,
yet still compatible with the peacefulness of the former tracks, then settling
into the huge deeply pulsating ‘Kanchenjunga Bowl’ – sounding the Cosmic Heart
moving towards a truly celestial ending featuring ‘choirs’ of Tibetan Bells and
‘Water spirit’ Bowls; plus bowed discs and bowed bells, and the deep, booming
‘Rain’ Gongs – expressive of the Cathar ‘Treasure’ – the Gospel of the Divine
Love of the Cosmic Christ. The Cathars or Albigenses (white brothers), were
branded heretics by the Church of Rome and ruthlessly persecuted in the 12th
century with Montsegur being their last stronghold. The church believed there
to be a rich treasure of gold for them to plunder. But this was never found and
speculation exists as to what, if any, was the fabled 'Treasure of the Cathars'.
Petalumines are petal-discs invented and built by Frank, they are extremely resonant ringing on for many minutes and rich in harmonic overtones, whilst Pyrahermeezees and Trianguhermeezees are also inventions of Frank’s for more details concerning these visit the Inventions page.
