Peace of the Blessed Buddha
Golden City of Peace
Call of the Mountain of the Golden Bowls
Track 1: PEACE OF THE BLESSED BUDDHA (32:33), is a meditation in four parts for huge, deep tuned Gongs; antique Tibetan Singing Bowls; 400 year-old Japanese Zen Buddhist Temple Bells; Kyeezees (ancient Burmese Meditation Gongs); plus Petalumines, Soundplates, Pyrahermeezees etc, all three invented by Frank himself. Check out inventions if interested to know more about these unique instruments. In general, their sounds ring on for a very long time whilst the Petalumines are very rich in harmonic overtones. The Soundplates and Pyrahermeezees, whilst also possessing a warm and rich sound, carry more of a quality of stillness and are less exciting than the Petalumines. Performed whilst in Tibetan meditation (Shi-ne), it is supremely peaceful, slow, & full of deep inner silence and stillness. The second section features ‘over-dubbing’ of several Tibetan singing bowls otherwise the whole album was recorded in one take with the one (‘sound-field’) microphone. The longest section comes at the end and is played upon the deep tuned gongs and the amazing Kyeezees and gradually including the warmer sounds of the Soundplates, Pyrahermeezees, and Trianguhermeezees. The CD is the original version – some of the silences were cut on the cassette release on aesthetic grounds because of the interference of tape hiss.
Track 2: GOLDEN CITY OF PEACE (27:14), opening with around 7 minutes of very deep symphonic gongs, both tuned and un-tuned, sometimes graced by resonant resting bells, this piece then settles upon a sacred Tibetan Heart-Chakra Singing Bowl (12th c), floating over which is Frank's rich bass-voice, Mongolian-style overtone chanting resonating within the beautiful temple acoustic; a Cosmic Heart 'Praise-song' powerfully raising us into Communion with the Divine. Having much in common with the inspiration behind Indian classical Drupad singing, which is likewise accompanied by a drone, this harmonic chant is the artist's attempt to portray the spiritual aspirational activities, which take place regularly within this Temple of the gentle brothers. The meditations for these two pieces are included inside both the CD and cassette booklet. The 'Golden City' may be the Eastern 'Shambhala' or the Western 'New Jerusalem' for all peoples are united in their vision of a spiritual utopia.
The CD contains the extra piece CALL OF THE MOUNTAIN OF THE GOLDEN BOWLS (12:25 - ‘98) exclusively featuring the enchanting sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls. Starting with deep powerful bowls very gently overlaid with the stimulating sounds of special bowed water bowls, and then moving into a section for the smaller, gentler, and more feminine Yin bowls - which are so very rich in overtones that open us out into a magical space of sacred sound carrying echoes of the voices of spirits and devas - and finally ending upon the deeply resonant bowls accompanied by the water bowls with which the piece began. Although a comparatively short piece, yet – through the dynamic spiritual potencies of the singing bowls - we are immediately transported into the spiritual realms whilst time is transcended as we enter into this golden world of the spiritual sun. The bowls being associated with ancient forms of fire worship are calling us into this golden world of the fiery heart at the centre of All life.
